Today I started the Non-Designer’s Design Book and finished Lesson 1. I also finished assignments 1, 2, and 3 of Lesson 2.
I read pages 15-30. Then I made a business card for a mock business called Frascht Photography.
Here is how that turned out:
After that I started Assignment 4 of Lesson 2, which was to create a letterhead for the mock business.
For both of these designs I used the same edited logo that I got from google, I changed the opacities of each logo. I got the black line and the top border of the letterhead from google. I used the paint bucket tool to change the colors of the border to match better with the logo. I typed the information of the business with the text tool then used the move tool to place it how I liked.
Today I started and finished assignment 5 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book. In this lesson I had to create a flyer for Frascht Photography advertising their deals for senior portraits.
The first thing I did was open a new 8.5 x 11 document in photoshop. I made a square using the rectangular marquee tool. I duplicated that square 10 times and placed them in three columns. I rotated the last square on top of the middle square. I got all of the photographs from google and I cropped and scaled them as needed to fit the squares.
I opened my letterhead document that I created yesterday:
I moved the small camera logo and the information text onto the flyer document. I moved the text around and changed the size of the font. I also scaled the camera a little and adjusted the opacity. I typed all of the information for the portrait packages and such using the text tool and changed the color of the font to white. I picked a color and used the paint bucket tool to color the background. I switched to the gradient tool and made a line from the bottom right corner to the top left corner. I did this same thing to the middle square. And with the diamond I made the gradient go vertical instead of diagonal.
Today I finished Assignment 6 of Lesson 2 in the Non-Designer’s Design Book. I had to choose an upcoming event in Oklahoma City and make a flyer for that event.
The first thing I did was type all of the information about the event using 2 different font and 2 different colors. I tested a few different colors before deciding on green and black.
After that I added a border that i found from google that matched the theme. I used free transform to scale it to fit the flyer.
After that I added a back ground, scaled it, and decreased the opacity to 20%.
After that I added a little clip art of a pot of gold.
But I think I like this version better:
I took out the clip art and moved all of the text down.
After that I started on Lesson 3 Assignment 1. Which was to read pages 31-48 of the Non-Designers Design Book.
Today I finished assignment 2 and started assignment 3 of lesson 3. Assignment there included making another version of the business card that I made in lesson 2 but this tim following the rules of alignment.
This is what I have so far:
The original business card I made was pretty boring:
I added a background photo, changed the color of the font, moved the font around, and added a line underneath the title.
Today I finished assignment 3 of lesson 3 for the Non-Designer’s Design Book. I changed the font of the contact information to a sans serif font:
I tried several fonts before choosing one I liked.
After that I worked on Assignment 4. This assignment involved editing the letterhead that I finished in lesson 2 but this time following the principle of alignment.
Im definitely not done with this yet. Im still thinking of ideas but heres what I have so far:
I basically just found the camera on google and drew the hands then merged those layers together. I changed the opacity and found a frame on google. I moved the contact information around a little and that’s it. definitely not done yet.
Today I continued working on Assignment 4 in Lesson 3 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book.
I decided to completely do away with yesterday’s design because I didn’t like it. I went back to the original letterhead I had made:
I got rid of the top border, and the camera at the bottom. I changed the font of the contact info to match the font I used for the edited business card. I increased the opacity of the camera logo at the top to 100%. I got the background I used for the edited business card and pasted onto the letterhead. I moved it to the top left corner of the paper and stretched the image to fit the width of the paper. Then I dragged the bottom up so the border would be thinner. I pressed cmd+t then right licked in the square and chose warp. I dragged the points and images around until I git the shape I wanted for the top border. I duplicated that, then rotated the opposite way and moved it to the bottom of the page. I also changed the size of the font naming the business.
Then I duplicated the top layer again grabbed the paint bucket tool and paint the duplicate green. I placed that layer behind the top border but peeled it out a little. I did the same with bottom border.
I feel like this design is a lot more interesting and fun than the original.
After that I started on Assignment 5. I started editing my flyer to fit the principle of alignment.
This is what I got done today:
All I’ve done so far is use a different font and decrease the size of the letters. I also moved them around a little to see where I wanted to put the text blocks.
Today I finished assignment 5 of lesson 3 for the Non-Designer’s Design Book.
I moved the diamond in the middle of the photos to behind the middle square so that I could take the contact information out of center alignment. I also changed the font of the contact info to match the text I used at the bottom of the flyer.
Then I started working on redoing my event flyer following the alignment guidelines.
Today I continued working on assignment 6 of lesson 3.
I started over with it again.
This is what I have so far.
I typed the font in different shades of green. I pasted the clover and used the paint bucket tool to color it white. I made a selection of the bottom of the page and colored it green. I moved the clover layer on top of the green layer.
Then I moved the font around.
Today I finished assignment 6 of lesson 3.
After that I worked on assignment 1 of lesson 4 which was to read pages 49-62.
Today I continued working on lesson 4. I finished assignment 1 and 2. I started on assignment 3 but didn’t get much done.
My design already had elements of repetition with the border on the top repeating on the bottom and the color scheme being consistent. All I did was repeat the logos pattern in the background. I made the cameras face different directions.
Today I finished editing the business card of assignment 3 of lesson 4.
All I did was make a copy of they background. move the original background down until just the top of the colorful part was visible. Then I moved the second background up until just the bottom part was visible.
I grabbed the paint bucket tool and painted in between each back ground black.
I changed the color of the line underneath the name because the border of the letterhead has a green line underneath it and I wanted them to be consistent with each other:
After that I started working on editing my flyer to fit the repetition principle.
Today I finished assignment 3 of lesson 4 and started on lesson 5 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book. All I had to do was read pages 63-78. After I did that I finished assignment 2 which involved sending an email to my instructor explaining the principle of contrast. I also had to name four ways contrast can be created. I also went to the print office at northwestern to print my senior announcements so I didn’t have much time for anything else.
Today I continued working on lesson 4 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book. Yesterday I finished assignment 1 and 2 so today I started on assignment 3. This assignment included editing my business card, letterhead, and flyer again, but this time following the principles of contrast.
Heres the business card I made:
I got the fonts from Dafont.com. I made the polaroids using the rectangular marquee and paint bucket tools. I got the clothes pin from google then duplicated it 4 times. I found the rope image on google and resized it to fit with the pictures and clothes pins. I made the stripes using the rectangular marquee and paint brush tools. I chose lighter colors for the stripes and polaroids so that it would contrast with the dark black fonts. The two different stripes contrast with each other too because one is thin and one is thick. The size of the different fonts also contrast with each other.
Today I continued working on lesson 5 assignment 3. I worked on the letterhead. The point was to follow the principles of contrast.
This design matches the business card I did yesterday.
I had to resize a move a few things around. I duplicated the stripes then resized them and put them so that they frame the letter. Then I lowered the opacity of the stripes a little. After that I spent time looking for what else I wanted to add to it but I couldn’t come up with anything.
When I finished, I started editing on the flyer. This is what I have so far:
I used a gradient for the back ground. I used the colors white black and blue to match the new news letter and business card that I made following the principles of contrast.
Today I continued working on assignment 3 of lesson 5 of the Non-designer’s Design Book. This involved editing the flyer I made so that it follows the principles of contrast.
What I finished last week:
I put the new logo that I designed for the contrast business card and letterhead into the diamond in the middle. I used the fonts and colors from that logo on the rest of the information on the flyer. I also added a purple outline to the photos and the middle square. I did that using the rectangular marquee tool and the paint bucket tool.
Today I finished lesson 5 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book.
Finished Flyer following the principles of contrast:
After that I started lesson 6 assignment 1. This assignment involved reading pages 87-120 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book.
Today I completed Lesson 6 of the Non- Designer’s Design Book.
I finished reading pages 79-86.
After that I sent my instructor an email of the Little Quiz #1.
Little Quiz #2:
The original ad had almost every word in all caps. The original add also used way too many fonts and nothing was aligned properly. I center aligned everything and placed the information that related in close proximity so that there are several different groups of information. I copy and pasted the tile images from the original ad onto mine but moved them to go with the names of the different tiles on display.
Today I stated assignment 1 of lesson 7 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book. For this lesson I read pages 87-120. For Assignment 2 I had to plan what typefaces Im going to use for the rest of the assignments in lesson 7. After I chose the fonts, I sent an email to my instructor showing her the name and a sample of what fonts I chose:
Today I continued with lesson 7 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book.
I finished assignment 3 and 4.
Finished Business Card:
I started with a brick wall background clipart and I duplicated it twice so that it would cover the entire card.
I added the Logo:
I used the rectangular marquee tool to make 3 rectangles at the bottom of the card then used the paint bucket tool to paint them using the color scheme I chose in assignment 3:
Then I used a few of the fonts I chose to type the information:
Today I started assignment 5 of lesson 7 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book. For this assignment I had to create a letterhead for the business Frillio’s Pizza.
I started by opening a 8.5 x 11 in document. Then I added one of the logos for frilios pizza to the corner of the page.
Then I went to google and found a checkered background. i duplicated it and made it go across the top of the page like a border:
Then I used the elliptical marquee tool to make an oval. I used the paint bucket tool to color the oval red. I moved that layer behind the logo and border layers. I duplicated the layer 10 times and spread it out so that it fit under the checkered border.
Then I added a red line to the bottom of the page and added their slogan:
Then I added the rest of the information and a little pizza clipart to separate them:
I added another logo to the right corner and put some black lines underneath and I also made the informations text a little bigger:
Today my assignment was to create a letterhead and write a letter to my instructor. The letter involved telling her why I took the class, what I expected, What I liked and disliked about the class, and what my future plans were.
After that I started assignment 6 of Lesson 7 of the Non-Designer’s Design Book.
For this Assignment I made an envelope for Frillio’s Pizza:
I pretty much just copied some of the layers from the letterhead I made last week and pasted them onto the envelope.
